Winging it Supper-Style

Okay. So I'm a pretty good cook.

Actually, I like to think of myself as a pretty damn good cook!

But it's been a while, and well devising a new recipe around one vegetable that you've never tried before is not the best thing to do.

Take for instance, tonight.

Tonight I decided to make a vegetable fried rice dinner, since all the chicken was frozen in blocks. And, to be perfectly honest, we haven't really done much vegetable shopping in a long time. I mean we buy fruit by the ton and eat loads of tomatoes and cucumbers because we grow those ourselves. Apparently now, we just don't buy vegetables unless their onions, potatoes, or we've run out of fresh tomatoes.

Anyhoo, we only had onions, a bag of frozen corn, a bag of frozen brussel sprouts...and I think thats it. I went ahead and decided to center the meal around the sprouts. Bad idea. I had asked my mom what they tasted like, and she said cauliflower. Yum. I like that. Yuck. It just didnt taste anything like cauliflower.

So basically from the moment I tried the brussel sprout, I knew the meal was over. I don't have to tell you how I mixed in some egg, and awesome rice or even the soy sauce. It all went to crap. Guh. Yuck.

So in conclusion, do not attempt to make a meal around something that you personally have never tried. Also, if you want to salvage the meal, throw it out and have fresh baked Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies standing by. Yum!
